Welcome to Movement International Fiji! Area you planning to relocate to Fiji and bring your beloved pet with you? We understand the importance of keeping your furry family member by your side, and we're here to help you navigate the process of bringing your dog or cat to Fiji smoothly.

This guide details the requirements and procedures set forth by the Biosecurity Authority of Fiji (BAF) to ensure a safe and hassle-free pet relocation.

Step 1: Applying for an Import Permit

  • Contact Us: Before you begin, provide details about your pet(s) to Movement International Fiji. We can assist you in gathering the necessary information and liaise with the BAF on your behalf.
  • Import Permit Application: We'll guide you through applying for an import permit with the BAF. This permit outlines the specific conditions you need to fulfill based on your pet's country of origin.
  • Processing Time: Allow approximately 5 working days for the BAF Animal Permits Team to process your application. There's a fee associated with the permit, payable when you submit the application.
  • Validity: Import permits are valid for six months from the date of issuance. Ensure your pet arrives in Fiji within this timeframe.

Step 2: Preparing Your Pet for Travel

  • Pre-Export Requirements: The specific tests and treatments your pet needs depend on their country of origin. The import permit will detail these requirements and the timeframe between treatments.
  • Health Certificate: Obtain a health certificate from a registered or government veterinarian in your home country.
  • Microchip: Ensure your pet is microchipped with an ISO 11784/11785 compliant microchip readable by an AVID, TROVAN, DESTRON, or other compatible reader.
  • Vaccination Records: Gather all your pet's current vaccination records.

Step 3: Transporting Your Pet to Fiji

  • Direct Flights: Whenever possible, book a direct flight to Fiji for your pet.
  • Seals on Crates: Ensure the official seals on your pet's crate remain intact upon arrival in Fiji.
  • Airline Restrictions: Confirm with your airline or handling agent that the aircraft transporting your pet isn't carrying animals from other countries.
  • Post-Arrival Transportation: Upon arrival in Fiji, immediately transport your pet to BAF's Post Entry Quarantine (PEQ) station in Koronivia, Nausori.
  • Quarantine Clearance: Prior to arrival, notify the BAF office at Nadi International Airport to arrange quarantine clearance and PEQ accommodation.

Step 4: Documentation

When your pet arrives in Fiji, they must be accompanied by the following documents:

  • Original Import Permit issued by the BAF
  • Health Certificate from your home country
  • Copies of Veterinary Certificates from your home country, completed by a registered veterinarian, including all laboratory results.
  • Vaccination Records
  • Proof of Microchip demonstrating ISO 11784/11785 compliance

Step 5: Post Entry Quarantine (PEQ)

All animals entering Fiji must undergo mandatory post entry quarantine at the BAF's PEQ station. This period allows BAF to monitor for diseases that may not have been detected during departure or arrival.

  • Booking: Reserve your pet's PEQ accommodation at least one month prior to arrival by calling +679-3312512 or emailing [email address removed] or [email address removed].
  • Duration: The quarantine period is determined by your pet's country of origin and their health upon arrival.
  • Release: Your pet will be released after completing the minimum quarantine period, remaining healthy throughout their stay, and all fees being paid.

Additional Considerations

Transiting Animals

If your pet travels through Fiji to another destination, ensure you comply with the transit requirements outlined by the BAF.

Prohibited Breeds

Certain dog and cat breeds are not permitted entry into Fiji. These include Dogo Argentino, Fila Brazileiro, Japanese Tosa, Pit Bull Terriers, and any mixes of these breeds. Additionally, Serval cats, any cat crossed with a Serval cat, and any cat within five generations of a Serval cat are prohibited.

Age Restrictions

Cats and dogs younger than four months old are not allowed entry, nor are female cats more than 21 days pregnant at the time of export.
